Online communities that don't seek revenue from the membership, then other opportunities are to seek revenue from businesses that are interested in tapping into the community members and/or make some transaction fee from valued activity from the community. Many monetize via advertising. Others charge a fee for creating Social Media programs that provide access into the knowledge of the community. Others might make a small transaction fee when a community member sells a product using tools available in the community. Others are seeking revenue by syndicating User Generated Content to corporate sites, from the community.
